The answer lies with the Early Church Fathers — the bishops, theologians, and writers of the first five centuries whose works became the backbone of Christian doctrine. They took on the monumental task of guarding and transmitting the apostolic faith.

They lived in a time of persecution and political chaos. Disputes about what Christians believed were constant. But this was also when the faith’s intellectual and spiritual roots were set down. The way we think about Christianity today comes largely from them..
